About Campus Pastor Scott Chrostek
![]() |
Scott joined the staff at The Church of the Resurrection on July 1, 2009. (He has been actively involved in Resurrection Downtown since March.) Scott and his wife, The Rev. Wendy Lyons Chrostek, a Congregational Care Pastor on staff at Resurrection, moved to downtown Kansas City after serving in two separate local churches just outside of Detroit, Michigan. Most recently, Scott worked as an Associate Pastor at Brighton First United Methodist Church, where he was largely responsible for planning and leading worship, developing programs for youth and young adults, and building bridges into the city of Detroit through mission and service.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.S., 2000) and Duke Divinity School (M.Div, 2006). Before entering the ministry, he spent most of his time within the world of investments. Scott was a student of economics at the University of Michigan, worked at Robert W. Baird & Co. (West Bloomfield, MI) and then MassMutual Financial Group (Hartford, CT). During that same period of time Scott coached both boys and girls High School soccer, and volunteered heavily within the middle school youth programs in his home church in Birmingham, MI. While at Duke, Scott worked on staff for two years at the Duke University Chapel, he was student body president, and he worked closely with the Deans of both the Divinity School and University Chapel. He is grateful for his time spent at Duke, because that is ultimately where Scott met his wife Wendy while camping out for basketball tickets!
Both Scott and Wendy are passionate about the United Methodist Church. They believe in the hope of the gospel and they know that the church is poised to proclaim that hope in such a place and time as this. That we actually have an opportunity to build community and change lives all for the sake of Jesus Christ is truly amazing and for that we will be forever thankful.
Because of their commitment to downtown and their passion for the city, Scott and Wendy have moved downtown, they are currently living in the Western Auto Lofts, about 10 blocks south of Grand Avenue Temple.
Other than working in the local church, Scott enjoys getting outside as often as possible to golf, run, and hike. It is also important to note that above all things (excluding the church and Wendy of course) Scott loves his Detroit Tigers…that could become trouble in October!
